Latrell Sprewell Faces $200 Million Lawsuit January 30, 2007 7:50 a.m. EST Pete Flies - All Headline News Sports Reporter New York, NY (AHN) - The long-time live-in girlfriend of former NBA player Latrell Sprewell has filed a $200 million lawsuit against him. The suit was brought by Candace Cabbil, the mother of four of Sprewell's children and guardian of another one of his children. Until recently, Sprewell lived with Cabill and at one time they were engaged. The case was brought to the U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Monday. The suit accuses Sprewell of initiating a physical and violent encounter with Cabill. The claim states that in December, Sprewell slapped her hand when she tried to call police then later pulled her down a staircase by the feet. Cabill's lawsuit states that the basketball player promised to share his property with her, but that he failed to follow through on the agreement. The suit claims that he reneged on his verbal promises to take care of her, and cites that he recently started tapering off his allowances to her for taking care of the family. In 2006, Sprewell was accused of choking a woman while they had sex on his yacht, although the charges were later dropped. Sprewell is remembered as a passionate and volatile figure of the NBA, with the ability to ignite a team's play with his enthusiasm. He stopped playing basketball professionally three years ago. He played in the NBA for 12 seasons, starting with the Golden State Warriors in 1993 and then moving to the New York Knicks in 1999. In his final three seasons, he played with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is possibly most infamously known for choking then-head coach P.J. Carlisemo during a Golden State Warriors practice session in 1997. |

Didn't he turn down a good contract to play? Is he retired, if so why?
