IMHO, that question occured to me when I read this:
Quote:
Our boy Khalid brings suffering and death to innocents he never met. Fallout would bring suffering and death to Khalid. See the distinction?
but I personally trust the authorities who nabbed him (until some radical new information appears, which I am not expecting).

Have you come across information calling this detained character's guilt or identity into question?

(also, did you ever post as Ka-boom?)

Because his TV told him it was true.

I'll wait to get morally indignant until after we here from a higher authority.
Why do you think we occasionally ship Gitmo detainees out to our "allies" in the arab world for interrogation when we have much better interrogators (and everything else) here in the U.S.? Can you be that naive? When the govt has repeatedly lied to us about what laws it is breaking and what rights it is taking from us in the war on terror? You must be able to think of at least some far-fetched scenario in which the govt isn't lying (by omission) to you on this topic. But I can't.

Once again, this presumes at the least that we believe is an effective mechanism for obtaining the truth.

It isn't. Since we know this, the suggestion that we are farming out AQ detainees to other nations to be tortured is a suggestion that the military (and civilian leadership) are psychopaths.

Update: If this story can be believed, we have now taken this guys 7 year old and 9 year old sons into custody in order to illicit the truth from Mohammed. We've gone from debating whether the Gitmo POWs/crime suspects should be given indoor prisons to not debating whether we should be sending them to other countries for torture and kidnapping their children.

It seems if everyone is telling us that he is behind everything, we could also get them to tell us where he's at, but it took years. More likely is that Al Qaeda is really mainly a support network for the conventional Islamist wars in the Balkans, Chechenya, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. This would better explain the lack of concerted action by the "mastermind" who could only put together a Bali bomb and a botched missle attack on a Kenyan airliner in his 18 month struggle against the great satan.
I would expect disinformation from the authorities on what they say they know about this guy or have discovered from him, assuming there are others they are after. Why tip your hand on the front page of the Times?

Law-enforcement sources told The Post that the CIA has had the 7- and 9-year- old sons of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in custody since September, and plans to use them as leverage to get the No. 3 man in al Qaeda to disclose Osama bin Laden's whereabouts and details of future terror operations.
