Speaking of nasty injuries, that new MTV show "Scarred" grosses me out. The first episode was a kid on a skateboard trying to land a jump and his leg just snaps in half.

Tim Krumrie, Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman, ankle flopping around in Super Bowl. Not the worst, but not pretty either.

A 15-inch steel rod was surgically implanted to stabilize the leg, and amazingly, Krumrie was ready by the next training camp and played 6 more years.
FWIW, I broke my tibia about 10 years ago playing soccer. I used to run 10Ks for fun (and for the t-shirts). I haven't run since.

» August 15, 1989: In his 2nd start since returning to the major leagues after cancer treatment, the Giants Dave Dravecky breaks his pitching arm while throwing to Tim Raines in the 6th inning of a 3–2 San Francisco win. The bone will heal but Dravecky will break it again during the Giants on-field celebration when the Giants clinch the pennant. Dravecky will not pitch again in the major leagues. » June 18, 1991: Former Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky, 35, has his left arm amputated to alleviate chronic infection and nerve damage. The operation is done at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital. Dravecky has had three operations on the arm to remove cancerous tumors. He won a game 10 months after his first operation, when doctors removed 50% of the major pitching muscle in his arm.

For some reason, I thought he had died. (I'm wrong)

I might start a new thread titled Napolean McCallum and state that's the grossest injury I've ever seen.

I was at this match. We were at a level where it was kind of hard to see through the ropes and all the people. It was the last match of the night and after it happened, Steiner stopped what he was doing and turned and called for medical people to come in. Instead, some other wrestler that was part of the story line comes out, and pins Vicious real quick to get it over with before the medical crew comes out. Of course, the fans that weren't close enough to see it thought it was part of the show. They brought the lights up and had to basically disassemble the ring as the crowd was leaving to get him out. My girlfriend at the time asked me what was going on (I was 10 inches taller than her and could see more). Then, through the people around the guy trying to tend to the injury, I saw a half a foot of his shinbone sticking out. It was nasty.
