None of the three supervisors would accompany the man to the toilet despite other students' protests.

Eventually one female student emptied her water bottle so the man could go to a corner of the room and relieve himself.

In a letter written on Wednesday and seen by Reuters, university deputy head Karl-Reinhard Volz apologized to the student, saying the supervisors' behavior was completely unjustified and "lacking in any normal human sensitivity."

CAS briefly had a rule saying that students may not leave the room in the first 2 hours without an escort. (Probably to prevent me from warning my buddies on the West Coast about exam questions.) I'm sure most proctors didn't enforce it, but mine did. I made the mistake of having a can of Coke right before the exam, and paid the price. Took about 20-30 minutes for the proctor to find me an escort, but needless to say I failed that exam. Fortunately they quickly got rid of that rule....
