You know folks - I really don't want to start banning people again. Checking for trolls, banning trolls, checking IP's etc. All of this takes time - which is at a premium right now.

Banning AoL ranges kicks out a lot of innoncent people as well as the few trolls that it is intended to.

So I'm asking nicely: Please do not trash our forum. There are MANY places on the internet where you can post whatever pops into your head and others will think you're funny.

This a place for (mostly) intelligent discussions.

If you cannot participate intelligently, please take your creative energy elsewhere.

Gee, Dr T, that would leave only the two of us.
Then, perhaps I'll get what I want?

Being non-net-saavy, as well as uniquely unqualified to spell "saavy," I'm going to ask...

What is a troll?

I'm assuming here it has nothing to do with Harry Potter or Beatrix Potter...

I assume the "(mostly)" part was added because of TDA.

You'll probably get responses different from this, but I've always interpreted it in the fishing sense of the word. Trolling involves dragging your line from a moving boat, trying to snag a bite. Same thing when someone drops a controversial line here. They're not so interested in the content of the response, they're just looking to generate responses. They like to get a rise out of people.

What is worse? To troll, or to take the bait?

I'm also referring to those who post porn/profanity in a moronic effort to be funny.
