Stevens Fishery Scandal Got $3.5 Million Earmark
By Laura McGann - August 1, 2007, 12:54 PM
One of the companies involved in the widening federal probe into Alaska political corruption is positioned to benefit handsomely from a $3.5 million earmark tucked into a 2008 Senate spending bill by Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), CQ reports.

The company, Trident Seafoods Corp., was one of several that received federal money via a local board headed by Stevens' son, Ben Stevens. While the younger Stevens dolled out federal grants supplied by his father, he received "consulting fees" from an association formed by the same companies winning the grants...
Here we go again. Earmarks from "Tubes Ted" to a company where his son was receiving 'consulting fees'.

(His son is in trouble too, now that he's a state sen. Lisa Murkowski (Sp?), daughter of former gov, is also in trouble for sweetheart real estate deals. And Young is too. All three national pols from alaska.)

What are they doing up there?

You probably give "up" as directions to get to Alaska, seeing how little you actually know about the place. Alaska is a VERY wealthy state.

all the more reason to reform earmarks (starting w/ disclosure). but the dems like to abuse them almost as much as the repubs, and reid/pelosi have watered down the reform in the current bills. can you say "doh"?

I'm aware that alaska is wealthy. Congrats on knowing this too.

Did I claim to be an expert on Alaska? Or, are you just crying because all of the R's in power there might be headed to the pokey?

Okay, I agree there's no real difference on corruption. However, if you look at earmarks over time -- no one has came close to matching the last R congress and R senate. The number and amounts increase something like 100-1000 fold.

So, while your intent of 'they all suck' is accurate, the bolded part is not really. We will see if the Dems start to be as abusive as the R's have been, though.

Just sayin'.

Not successfully, no.

Keep sharing your favorite bloggers stories. It's certainly cheaper than the therapy any psychologist would recommend for your anger.

I don't need to point out R earmarks. That's all you live for.
