for the Holidays?
I live in NYC, and we moved into a full-service building almost a year ago, but this is our first holiday season and I have no idea what the rules are. |

Are there really apartments with doormen and supers? I always thought they were just props for Law and Order.

Both are pretty common in Manhattan

I just read the article. This is very scary. A week's worth of pay for the nanny?! I don't even give this much to my wife or my parents or pretty much anyone!

That's a week's worth of NANNY pay, genius.
Still might be a bit high in some cases. |

Yeah, Traci. I understand that it's not week of MY pay.
Our nanny takes home over $300. Cash. That's A LOT of money for a Christmas gift. |

I would think a $50-100 Christmas bonus would be fine then. She's already getting quite a bonus by being paid in cash all year.
Surely you spend that much on your wife, no? |

A week's pay to the nanny is standard in suburban NYC and that's what mine will get.
However, according to that article I'm supposed to give two weeks pay because she's been with me over a year. Not going to happen. |

A fun (sarcasm intended)topic that my wife and I debate about each year. We live in a building in NYC which has a staff of about 40 (it's a big building). Plus we have a nanny, and our car is parked in a garage. The nanny gets the biggest share, by far, of our holiday money. Of course, she's the only one of the recipients who only gets a holiday tip from us. This year we're giving her approx. 1.75 weeks of pay. Needless to say, with all these people sticking out their hands (and we don't give to all of them), we end up giving out a ridiculous sum of money each year. But no one has ever said living in NYC is cheap.
