Just wondering if anyone else has their own rankings for gas. I tend to get more mileage out of BP/Amoco than, say Sunoco.
Me: 1. BP/Amoco 2. Shell 3. Mobil/Exxon 4. Sunoco 5. Hess (I think a northeast regional one) 5. Citgo We don't have Chevron or Marathon/Speedway/Pilot here in long island. Is this quality difference in my head, or do you have similar rankings? |

I never give it any thought whatsoever.

My dad, the truck mechanic, used to say that it didn't matter the brand, because it all came out of the same pipeline.
However, ethanol will definitely reduce your gas mileage.

I find that the places I stop at right before a long trip give me better mileage than the places I go when I'm puttering around town.
I've only noticed a real difference at two places, both places with no national (or even regional) brand. I've stopped buying gas from places simply labelled "Gas", or "US Gas", or the like. In these cases, the difference in mileage was quite noticible once I started tracking that. |

I have not noticed a difference in my most recent car, which requires premium.
I get worse satisfaction at stations that charge me extra for using my debit card. It's an additional 3 cents per gallon. And I don't like to carry $40 (in $20's, at least) everywhere I go.

I don't believe there are actually brand differences. However, there are station differences. Stations that have poor maintenance or that sell little gasoline tend to have more impurities in what they do sell, and that can make a difference.
