Default ASM Exam difficulty

I was getting pretty discouraged/stressed out with my results on the ASM end of the manual practice exams. If you are in the same boat I would highly suggest taking a released SOA exam. I was planning on holding off all of these until finishing ASM, but I felt like I needed to get a better gauge of were I was at. I took the Fall 2005 exam and did much better. So I guess what I am suggesting is if you are feeling discouraged by ASM take an SOA to see where you are at. It helped me develop the game plan of working through and reviewing the rest of the ASM exams, but not stressing to much over low scores and taking the rest of the SOA exams when finished. I am also thinking of not putting off the one released MLC exam until the end. I don't wnat to feel like things are too late at that point.

I agree, I will probably take my 2nd practice exam come Monday, and that will be the Spring 07 MLC exam.

It is pretty easy to get discouraged by the results of an ASM practice exam, but they definitely prepare you.

Agreed. And that is why I have used ASM for all my exams so far. I am really curious as to what you think of S07 MLC and how it compares to the other SOA exam you took. Have you made it through all the ASM exams yet?

Well, I have already seen the questions, and I can tell you it is much easier. I have only tried one ASM exam so far. I think I have a total of six to go through.

I would say the difficulty is comparable to the real exams. At least the difference is less than in the practice exams for exam "FM" . I just noticed that wording sometimes is not so good. You should assume some things, even if they are not mentioned.

so probably ASM is twice as difficult as real exams...
but two things i've noticed,
1. ASM questions are longer
2. ASM questions cover broader topics, and more "rare-topic questions" than real exams

Those rare-topic questions are based off the basics which is most of an SOA exam.

I took the Spring07 MLC exam last night, but didn't do too well - 14/30. I wasn't focused what so ever, made some numerical mistakes, couldn't stay with a long problem, and I still have some weak points to go over.

Contrary to what many people believe on this forum, I felt as if May 07 was a difficult exam. Like I have said before, I felt great going into the exam. For some reason or another, that exam didn't go well. Hopefully this time around will be better. Keep plugging away at the old exams. Don't let 14/30 get you down. I am sure you will fare much better on the real exam.
