I emailed the SOA to ask if and when, and this is what I just received:

Dear *****,

Thank you for contacting the SOA.
Unfortunately we will not be releasing any exams for this session.
If you need further assistance, please contact Customer Service at 888-697-3900.

Sincerely;

I ***** the names for privacy reasons. Just thought I would let people know, incase they have been checking the SOA website for the exams (like I have been).

...

This reminds me of the part in Dumb & Dumber where Lloyd reads a nostalgic newspaper headline hanging on a barside wall and exclaims, "No way. We landed on the moon!"

Just trying to help a brother out. All I had heard was speculation on whether or not the exams would be released. I just thought I would get something a little more concrete...

I'm fairly sure that Bruce posted somewhere a little while ago that all preliminary exams would be moving to CBT sometime in the future, so they would not be releasing exams anymore to help build up a question bank.

No harm, no foul.

Both Bruce and Jim Daniels confirmed this in the Exam 4 thread. Not your fault, not everyone is reading there.

This stinks for those of us who have to re-take MFE next time. The questions this time seemed very different than the released questions from the spring. It would have been nice to be able to study them. Also it seems like they would release MFE because this is only the second sitting and there aren't many sample/old problems.

If this is the case, then the sample questions should be improved. MLC's sample questions (the sample looks like it was from a typewriter) aren't much of a problem since there is such a big history of released exams. However, MFE's attempt at sample questions needs to have a further look to aid the students taking the exam.

How to explain actuarial exams to someone else...

Good Einstein quote - "One had to cram all this stuff into one's mind for the examinations, whether one liked it or not. This coercion had such a deterring effect on me that, after I had passed the final examination, I found the consideration of any scientific problems distasteful to me for an entire year."

I also think of this movie when I think of what my MFE score will be.
LLoyd: "The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?"
Mary: "Not good."
LLoyd: "You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?"
Mary: "I'd say more like one out of a million."
LLoyd: "......... so you're telling me there's a chance!"
