Default What to take next - MLC or C?

Hi, I sat for FM and will take P at the end of November. Assuming I pass both, should I aim for MLC or C as the next step in May 2008? I know MLC is probably the more standard fair, but I've also heard that C might be easier to grasp? Is this true? Which one is harder and takes more time to prepare? Would one overtake the other as being of the bread-and-butter of daily actuarial job functions? I will be looking for an entry-level job soon as a career changer, and would really want to get a feel of the "core" of the actuary science so that I can know sooner rather than later that I'm on the right path. Which one would the employer prefer?

I have some probability and statistics background, but no direct actuarial experience.

Thank you for your guidance.

MLC is the bread and butter of actuarial science, but none of these exams are the meat and potatoes of your daily job functions.

How to explain actuarial exams to someone else...

Good Einstein quote - "One had to cram all this stuff into one's mind for the examinations, whether one liked it or not. This coercion had such a deterring effect on me that, after I had passed the final examination, I found the consideration of any scientific problems distasteful to me for an entire year."

Thanks for the reply! I might not have made myself clear in the orginal post that I do plan to start looking for a job after finishing P in two weeks. It's just that while doing that, I also want to spend some time preparing for the next exam and I'm trying to decide between MLC and C. And if the preparation of one might give me better perspective with the job search, that would definitely skew my decision. Besides that, I would also like to hear any side-by-side comparison of MLC and C that would help with the pick, in terms of difficulty, preparation time, skills tested, etc, etc.

Point taken that the complicated maths won't show up often in day-to-day work. I guess that's a common misperception by an eager newbie.

If you are looking to do life actuarial work then MLC will be highly applicable to your job. Many of the concepts are important for retirement work as well, I imagine. I'm not real familiar with the content on C so I can't comment on the differences etc.

I've done C in may 07 and I'll probably do MLC + MFE in may 08. If you plan to do MLC and MFE separately, then you may be better to do MLC first. JMO.

Was there any particular reason that you chose to finish C before any of the Ms?
