Default Why no Islamic Terrorist Attacks on US Soil Since 911?

With two shooting rampages in the last week and the Virginia Tech shootings earlier this year, it is clear that anyone wishing to take multiple civilian lives can do so all too easily. It makes it all the more puzzling to me that Islamic extremists have not staged a successful terrorist attack on US soil since 911.

Why no random shootings? Why no suicide bombings? Is US intelligence doing that good of a good job? Are Al-Qaeda and other militant Muslims waiting until they can successfully stage a major strike? Are they afraid to reunite an American public who seem to increasingly oppose US involvement in the middle east?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

If you're ignoring the cross-country random shootings, and the shootings at LAX, and the plane that crashed just after takeoff from... JFK...? you may be right.

Did you consider all of these acts of terror? If not, which ones specifically?

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Sometimes I need things spelled out for me.

I'm guessing this isn't your first AO ID. Have you posted in political before?

I think a big part of it is
A) You have to get idiots who are willing to blow themselves up;
B) said idiots aren't necessarily the most reliable in terms of following instructions;
C) even an idiot can see things are pretty good here compared to their home country. I think a lot of them get here and say, "Hey, I think I'll stay here. What? Jihad meeting on Tuesday? Where? I can't hear you, this cell phone has lousy reception...zzt...click" and go on with their lives. In other words, our decadent Western culture seduces them.
