Default so Nov MFE was hard...

so going by the trend.

Spring 07 MFE was easy

Nov 07 MFE was very very hard

Therefore

Spring 08 MFE will be easy?

Therefore ASM + D.M. for Spring 08 MFE = Pass easily?

Spring 07 was hard, Fall 07 was tougher, but at least people had Spring 07 to rely on.

How to explain actuarial exams to someone else...

Good Einstein quote - "One had to cram all this stuff into one's mind for the examinations, whether one liked it or not. This coercion had such a deterring effect on me that, after I had passed the final examination, I found the consideration of any scientific problems distasteful to me for an entire year."

Default Could go either way

I believe that Spring 07 was the first time that the new MFE exam was given. I have heard anecdotally that frequently the first time a new exam is given or new material is included on an existing exam, it is generally a little less difficult. Then the difficulty generally ramps up until they reach the desired level. That is what the proctor at my Spring 08 FM exam said - the first time that the derivitive markets material was included on FM - when the students were indicating that they expected it to be more difficult.

That said the pass rates for the Spring 07 MFE exam don't seem like they were too far out of line with other exams (excluding the weed-out exam P). We'll see what the Fall pass rates look like. It may have been more difficult or there may have been a bit of a "recentcy" effect remembering the more recent exam more clearly. I didn't take either, so I can't judge. I do know my coworker that took both left the Fall exam not feeling good about his performance. However, he didn't say if he thought it was more difficult than the Spring sitting.

So it could go either way. We may get lucky since Spring 08 is the first joint SOA/CAS administration they may dial back the difficulty a touch. (I'm hoping, but not counting on it)

Default OOPS!

Ya caught me.

If time travel was possible, I think I would go back and take the Spring 07 MFE exam since it has been released.

Along with nearly everyone that takes the exam, I'll take a 6, and be very happy. As long as I pass.

As my boss says, anything more than a 6 and you studied too much.
