it's nice that you admit to it.

When you reach a certain level of maturity, it is easy to admit these kinds of things.

So people are getting het up about dating preferences, when there's far more offensive stuff in the professional sections:

Is that criminal too? It's by far the most clear way I could come up with to do what I'm trying to do, but 20 parens in a row seems a little much.

It was obvious to me that this was posted specifically to provoke me. I'm offended.

Yes, and the posts were deleted.

I've reported offensive posts myself, btw. So I know of their existence.

This is not what is going on in my case, nor Traina's, would be my guess. I know of one additional woman who is no longer on the AO, probably in part due to the atmosphere for women. I will say, however, that I am bothered when an attitude of "this is what I like" spills over into "people who are not like that should not exist/appear in public/etc.".

Often times, it starts with people saying "this is what I like" until people start whining and complaining about what people like and that just leads to people getting upset and stating it in a stronger, more offensive manner.

A lot of those "no fat chicks" posts, of course, are being done to deliberately provoke reaction, obviously. About as subtle as little boys pulling girls' pigtails.

In any case, I'm involved in a blog that involved a troll that drove away many people. I, and others writing for the blog, saw him as mentally disturbed and generally ignored him, until it really cut into our readership. We banned him as best we could. Damage was done with some people.

It's up to the Mods/DW Simpson as to what level of stirring up beehives they want in the non-professional sections [they're not so lenient in the professional sections, obviously, and that's where I do most of my reporting of posts]. An online community can easily dissolve from a variety of pressures, like any social scene. But it can go either way.
