I went to watch the movie yesterday evening and I can only say one thing about it...

I was simply and utterly blown away!

I am already a fan of the books and of the "genre" so I am most likely biased in my opinion. But it was extremely well made, the actors were good, the effects, etc.

J.R.R. Tolkien would be proud of Peter Jackson and all those who participated in making this (in my humble opinion) the movie of the year!

Go see it, you will not regret it one bit.

I'll second that. Possibly the only movie all year I've felt has been worth the $7.25 admission. It's amazing the effort that must have gone into this movie... every last detail is thought of. I don't want to wait a whole year for the next one.

Man, I wish I only had to pay $7.25. Around here, it's $8.50 a ticket, and because I pre-ordered online to ensure I'd get tickets for last night, I got taken for an extra $1.

Despite all that though, it was still worth it. It's already one of my favorite movies ever. The cinematography is lush, the acting is believable, the story is followed, and even where it isn't, the changes they make actually improve the storytelling. I think the whole movie flowed extremely well also. It's academic that I'll be going to see this movie again, most likely more than once. I agree with the fact that a year is way too long to have to wait for The Two Towers, but at least they decided not to go Lucas on us and make us wait three.

How strong a PG-13 is it? Gore or just high action violence. Realistic or overly exagerated.

Thanks

PG-13 for violence only. There's some pretty realistic stuff there, and there are quite a few battle scenes. Not something I'd take young children to. Also, there are a couple of scenes that are downright scary and probably would disturb some children. I don't want to give away more than that.

Studly, you shouldn't have to wait, as the filming has been completed on all three. And, the books were already written, as opposed to Lucas' story arc (which only has a specific ending that equals the beginning of Chapter 4).

I've never read the books. Still want to go, though.

Patience,

Please keep discussions about Gore in the Political thread. Didn't Gore write the trilogy?

DTNF: Although the filming is already "in the can" for all three, the second movie is scheduled to be released during X-mas 2002, and the third the following X-mas.
