Default would you ever lie on an application?

I've been unemployed for a long time.

This week, I'm scheduled to talk to 3 potential employers.

1, an actuarial firm, which will deny me because of my gpa and work history.
2, immigration, who will deny me because I've smoked pot.
3, a trucking firm, who will deny me because of an unreported $100 fenderbender.

I will also apply for other jobs, and most of them will deny me because of my work history in combination with my math degree from a top ranked school-- which if you didn't know is a pretty good sign you're not going to stick around doing data entry as long as they would like. That's assuming I'm qualified to begin with-- almost all jobs-- from balancing a ledger to ordering supplies, require at least a specific degree, if not experience.

Of course there's retail. So.. regarding dishonesty.. would you could you in a box?

No. It's a question. If you needed a job--

Would you ever leave off the name of your school and major, so people don't know you're overqualified?
Or forget about the unreported accident?
Or deny trying pot?
Or pretend you took a class in the principles of basic accounting when really you just looked them up on wikipedia?

Don't get me wrong, I've never misled a potential employer, but I'm also the most incessantly honest person I know, so I'm curious where others draw their lines.

Deny trying pot only if they don't offer a lie detector test.....
Unreported accidents is an accident that never happened.....
I can't tell u what to delete from your resume

I wouldn't volunteer info about the unreported accident, but if they somehow found out about it, I wouldn't deny it.

I would answer no to the rest of the questions (but with my school, no one would ever assume I was overqualified)

Whatever you do, don't tell them that you live in NYC...unless, of course, you actually, do live there.

Unless it's for one of the big companies, because they only hire locals.
