Do you think maybe the fact that these 'bad actors' were removed had a positive effect on the team?

My HS's basketball team had 2 starters and the 6th man kicked off over the Christmas/New Year holiday break because of breaking team rules (drinking alcohol). Everyone was shocked and figured that was pretty much the end of the season for the team. They went on to win the state championship.

Cutting out a cancer can have positive effects.

I figure this thread has become the "Strange News" or "News That Makes You Say WTF" thread of school related news.

I have been subject to some level of hazing at every level of sports I have played, but I have to ask, "What is freaking wrong with people?". The worst thing I ever saw hazing-wise was upperclassmen hitting baseballs out into a parking lot and making freshman go pick them up. Good God.

It reminds me a bit of the story in NAT several weeks back with the frat boy who got a BAL of about 13 by "buttchugging" and the first thing the lawyer wants to make clear in the statement to the press is that his client is not gay.

Note to sports players: keep your fingers out of your teammates anuses, mkay?

What I don't understand is how these rituals perpetuate. What person says "Yeah last year these guys stuck their fingers in my body cavities ... I can't wait until I can be an upperclassman who gets to do that to the freshmen - it'll be awesome!!!"

When I was in college the hazing stuff I remember hearing about in fraternities was stuff like making the pledges be designated drivers for the upperclassmen, making them go on runs wearing silly clothing (pink/frilly/girly stuff often) and/or carrying something heavy, doing work on the frat house... that kind of stuff. Your example of having to collect the baseballs from the parking lot seems like a perfectly reasonable form of hazing.

What kind of sicko thinks anally raping a group of teammates is good for morale???
