Default 2008 Baseball Predictions Contest

Spring is nearly here and Opening Day is technically a week away!

This is just like the 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003 contests. Last year saw a record 30 entrants (up from 18 in 2006) and was won by Pub Guy (though technically the BP PECOTA-nators tied with him).

Simply submit your predictions for the final standings of the 2008 baseball season. You will be penalized one point for each place that separates your prediction and the actual outcome.... for example, if you pick the Cubs to finish 4th but they finish 2nd, you get 2 unwanted points. The lowest score at the end of the season is the winner.

You get 2 points taken away from your score for each team you correctly pick to be in the playoffs. It doesn't matter if they get in via division winner or wild-card champ.

Ties: If two or more teams finish with the same record and it does not affect the division champion, their division positions will be their averages. For example, if the Brewers and Pirates both finish 92-70, good for 2nd and 3rd in the NL Central, they would be considered to both have finished in 2.5th place. Whether one qualified for the Wild Card would be irrelevant, they would still both be considered as 2.5th. Thus, someone who picked the Pirates to finish 4th would get 1.5 points. However, if two teams tie for the best record in a division, the 1st place team will be the one that wins the division by MLB tiebreaker rules.

You can also enter in your post-season predictions and other surprises, but they won't have any affect on the competition.
It's just all in good fun.

Hopefully, Jables will offer to audit the scoring again.

Enter in your projections in the same format as shown below:

AL East: Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays, Orioles
AL Central: Tigers, Indians*, White Sox, Twins, Royals
AL West: Angels, A’s, Mariners, Rangers

NL East: Phillies, Mets, Braves, Marlins, Nationals
NL Central: Cubs, Brewers*, Cardinals, Astros, Reds, Pirates
NL West: Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Padres, Rockies, Giants

ALDS: Red Sox over Indians, Tigers over Angels
ALCS: Tigers over Red Sox
NLDS: Phillies over Brewers, Cubs over Dodgers
NLCS: Cubs over Phillies
World Series: Tigers over Cubs

AL MVP (1-2-3): Miguel Cabrera, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz
AL Cy Young (1-2-3): Justin Verlander, Javier Vazquez, Jason Vargas, Johan Santana, Dan Haren Erik Bedard
AL Surprise: Barry Bonds signs with the 48-38 Seattle Mariners in July, after which point they 25-51...

NL MVP (1-2-3): Jimmy Rollins, David Wright, Ryan Braun
NL Cy Young (1-2-3): Johan Santana, Jake Peavy, Brandon Webb
NL Surprise: Albert Pujols has season-ending surgery

The deadline is 8PM EST Sunday, March 30 (Opening Day in the US)!

Stupid trades. I almost put Santana as AL Cy Young, too. No, not Ervin...

I'm in. You want PMs or just post 'em here?

Could've just checked the old threads. But I didn't. So sue me.

Post 'em here.

Also if anyone has BP, SI, ESPN or other such predictions for 2008, please feel free to post those as well, for comparison.
