Default Poll: Democrats both tied with McCain

Say the Gallupers...

I imagine that once the democrats choose a candidate, this will start to shift back to whoever the Dems select – Obaminton can then shift to the center, more attention will be paid to McCain (and I think it would be better for him if more attention didn’t shift his way) and I assume some of these folks who say “Well, I like Obama but if it’s Hillary v. McCain I’d vote for McCain!” will revert to their party affiliation rather than let McCain win.

Hillary's polling numbers are very deceptive in that some R's are voting for her to help McCain win.

But this is a poll, not a vote. Do you suppose that Republicans are lying to Gallup to make her seem more likely to defeat McCain in November, because they're so afraid of Obama? That a bit too out there for me.

We'll see. I think McCain is a stronger general-election candidate than Bush (more eloquent, stronger background, less far-right affiliations) and Bush beat (or tied) the Dems twice. Is there any reason to believe Clinton or Obama are stronger candidates than Gore or Kerry?

I think there are a lot of conservatives (like me!) who won't pick an awful candidate who is the lesser of two evils again (Bush taught us our lessons.) McCain can't even use the Bush strategy of rallying the base, 'cuz he's so soft on the traditional issues (i.e. abortion). Plus the economy is slumping & the war is as or more unpopular than ever - certainly more unpopular than 4 years ago.

I think McCain is gonna get crushed.

Both have personality, something that you really can't say for Gore or Kerry. Plus, neither are going to run the abysmally stupid campaign that Kerry ran (I'll do everything that Bush says he'll do, but I just won't be Bush doing it. Then, why elect you?)

Clinton doesn't necessarily have a good personality, so in that respects it hard to say if she'd do better against McCain. Plus, she's not the cleanest of candidates and lacks the experience of both.

I wouldn't say they are lying in the independent polls with all candidates but I would say any polls having Obama vs Clinton might include people who don't plan to vote for either.

McCain, being out of the spotlight, I think is getting a boost from just not being in the spotlight. When the general election campaign comes around do McCain's numbers start to become relevant again.

I thought McCain has a perfect Conservative record on abortion?

I thought being pro choice automatically revoked your conservative card.
