I think it does appear inappropriate, but his political enemies don't seem to be very honest about it.

The question(s) I would like to see asked is this: Why did the Nazi party choose to invite him to speak? Did they know he was going to preach the gospel to them? Is there anything in his background to suggest that he shares any of their political values?

He met with them and tired, however vain, to change their hearts.

Bad choice politically but a good one morally.

His premise was fine, his execution was poor.

Standing in their hall, with their decorations, talking to them is a bad image to send.

What did he actually say? If a big part of his message was "stop being effing Nazi's, dumbasses!", then good on him. If he treated them as if they were any other group, then... not so much.
