(Cue theme music: Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield)
Quote:
Once upon a time the students of the Rebel Outpost Actuarial Society were waiting on the results of their last exam. Unbeknownst to them, the exam committee had been hijacked by a band of students desperate to keep the other students from obtaining their FROAS. This band, not content with merely changing grade reports, set out to execute the remaining students. In an effort to protect their future and the honor of the FROAS designation, the students will attempt to unmask and lynch the members of the ersatz exam committee. Rules: · I will randomly select the members of the Exam Committee. · The members of the Exam Committees will know who else is on their Exam Committee. The number of the EC will be known to the students. · The Exam Committee will each be given access to individual Exam Committee IDs. · The game begins with the death scene of the first "guest" victim executed by the Exam Committee. This person does not enter the ghost forum and may not haunt. · With the exception of the Exam Committee ID of each Exam Committee member and the initial death scene, no participant may participate in this thread or via PM under more than one Actuarial Outpost (RF) ID. · Note that in the past this game has generated game-related discussion of possible alts of the players. Realize that by playing this game you are subject to speculation as to whether you are an alt. (Obligatory: Have fun being banned.) Game Procedure · After each EC execution, the students discuss who might be on the Committee, and publicly vote for whom to lynch. Once a majority of the living students (which includes the Committee) votes for a particular student, he or she is lynched. · Votes may be cast beginning after each EC execution. Before voting, a player must make at least 2 posts of 25 substantive words in this thread or the thread mentioned below. These posts may be made any time after the last round’s final vote, and your first vote for the round can be part of your second post. · A separate thread will be created for non-substantive posts, including flirting, bumping, and gratuitous boos. Please keep the main thread All Clear-friendly! · Voting is as follows: use BOLD to highlight votes and vote changes. Don't use bold for anything else. This is so I can try to follow the vote counts. If you change your vote, Unvoting your previous vote is strongly recommended to remain in the moderator's good graces. Passing is allowed as well - if the students decide to speed up a round, once a majority has voted to pass, the students will forfeit their turn and the EC will get a chance to make another execution. · After each lynching, the EC will perform another execution. Between their executions, each member of the Exam Committee is required to make 5 posts of 25 substantive words apiece. These posts must be made in Cyberchat, be on topic, and the Exam Committee will be penalized if the moderators have to get involved. · Dead players become ghosts when their death is announced by the moderator if they were innocent students, and may no longer interact with other players, neither in public posts nor private messages. They may use the ghost forum. · Dead players may haunt the thread, causing strange things to happen: bizarre winds, flickering lights, blood, spewed split pea soup, etc. If that allows communication from beyond the grave for living players with a gift for contacting the spiritual world, so be it! All ghost codes must be approved by the moderator before being used. This can be done when the codes are posted in the ghost forum. All posts in the thread made by ghosts must be either a haunt, a boo, or text that tells the story of strange things happening. · At an unspecified point in the game, the ghosts will have grown in strength, and may begin to haunt players. Haunting will occur after executions and before lynching. · Late in the game, the Ghost Forum will no longer be permitted to interact with the forum, except to haunt. No codes may then be used. · Dead exam committee members do not enter the ghost forum. Dead exam committee members may continue to haunt the thread, but should not interact with other players in public posts or private messages, with the exception of their committee. · If the students or ghosts fail to perform a lynching or haunting by their deadline, they forfeit their turn. · The EC may not pass on their turn, otherwise the killings will have stopped and the students would have won. If no selection for execution is determined or the posting requirements aren't met, the game moderator will randomly select an execution from the student population (including members of the exam committee). Miscellaneous · As a point of game ethics, it is forbidden for spectators to relay any information between students and ghosts. Other than this, spectators are not bound by any game rules. Players and/or ghosts may exchange PMs with spectators at their own risk. · Players and/or ghosts may assign proxies at any time. Proxies are assigned by publicly posting whom one's proxy is assigned to and for what duration. A proxy may be canceled by its creator at any time by making a post to that effect. Living students may only give proxies to other living students; ghosts may only give proxies to other ghosts. No person may control the proxy of more than one other person at a time. It will be assumed that each proxy carries a caveat of "don't use it to vote for me." No other conditions will be enforced. · Students may not act upon RF information that is not intended to be viewable from their own RF ID. Specifically, this prohibits "password swaps" as well as the unauthorized viewing of information under the EC ID, the ghost forum, or under another player's ID, regardless of whether such access was offered willingly or was obtained by other means. It is, however, specifically permitted to forward or post any game-related PMs you receive from other players. You may not forward or post any PM sent to you by the moderator. · The game moderator may remove any player at any time if they are banned from the RF, if they are violating game rules, or if they ask to be removed. If so, it will be announced whether the player was EC or not. · The game moderator reserves the right to create, cancel, or modify game rules in the event of unforeseen circumstances, or if he deems that a loophole is being exploited to the detriment of the game. Suggested starting date: June 10

a few people are picked to be "the exam committee". They work behind the scenes (usually PMs - perhaps an exchange of emails) to "kill off" the innocent students. The exam committee exists in the game as normal players and try to pass themselves as innocent students. The rounds alternate between a round of lynching where the students try to lynch an EC among them. After that, the EC execute a student. The goal of the game if you are an EC is to kill the other students before they kill all of your EC brethern. If you are an IS, the goal is to root out the EC and kill them first. There are other roles in the game, including ghosts (former ISs who may haunt and try to kill EC, usually), but that is the basic gist of the gameplay.

You might want to skim through a few of the old EC games that are all linked in the Exam Committee Homepage sticky at the top of Diversions.
