Default FAC presentation

Is the focus of the presentation supposed to be the Decision Making Process, like the DMAC paper was?

Yes. But if you didn't do DMAC, you get a list of acceptable alternatives.

Another question: Is the audience of the presentation the same as that of the DMAC paper? My DMAC paper was directed at senior management, so I have been assuming that my presentation will be similarly directed.

I'm a little unclear on this point. Some of the instructions say to tailor the presentation with the understanding that the audience will be actuaries who may not be in the same practice area. To me this changes things a bit. In my oral presentation, I will need to include some things that were only "background" in my paper.

OTOH, while my project included a lot of analysis, only some very high level results of that analysis were used in my paper. So from that perspective, there is not much in my paper that would not be understood by most actuaries.

For those of us that didn't do DMAC, how much individual work is required in developing the underlying content of the FAC oral presentation?

I know the focus is on the oral presentation, not the content. So if my presentation is based on a project that my team has done in the last few months, am I permitted to incorporate data / graphs / proposals / solutions that I did not exclusively create?

The SOA wrote that my only deliverable is the one page outline. I interpret that to mean that I should create an executive summary on the subject, but that the material for the oral presentation does not require my original work in developing proposals and solutions. Is that a fair interpretation?

Your best bet is to contact Doreen Tan at the SOA.

Don't get too bogged down in details for the presentation. So long as your subject matter is actuarial in nature and you talk for at least 8 minutes, you'll pass.

I'm shortening a client presentation I gave for work 2 years ago. All the data is out of date, we discontinued the business, so there's no real "confidentiality" issues, and I'll change the details a little.

But the best part is: I already wrote a 4-page "summary" that I just need to condense to 1, plus there's an 11-slide deck already done. Whoo-hoo!

Thanks everyone, that helps.

Now the only thing I have left to do is teach my wife how to eat $145 of food in one sitting!!!

You probably don't want that to become a habit!
