V's suggestion is that Gimli and Sir K take the center, which is the easiest for the bad guys to gang upon if they choose to. So perhaps they start in E9/F9 and charge to square D5/E5. V would look to start in B9 or B10 (whichever is out of C L Eric's way) and charge to square B5 attacking G1.

He may be right; it's up to you. All starting positions apply before the surprise round starts. If you start in B9, as you tentatively said you would, the tree blocks his view of you from F9 (which is the spot CL Eric eventually chose). If you start in B10, which I think works for your charge, he can see you when he attacks.
