I thought that was a good question until I went to vote. I'm brown, a female with the same color would be a brunette. It suddenly seemed pretty clear that I had no intention of checking the "brunette" button

I tend to think of them as the same, but some insist that "brunette" is dark brown, almost black, and brown is light brown.

As a medium brown, I gave up and went with "brown".

Used to be dark brown/black. Then I met Miss Clairol. Now, it's light to medium brown.

Isn't "-ette" usually a diminutizing suffix? So does "little brown" mean "more blond" or "more black"?

Enh, I picked brown. I have highlights too but that wouldn't be natural color.
