a successful appeal affects everyone, as they relook at all the papers possibly affected.

While it is true that a successful paper forces a regrade of all papers close enough to the pass mark to be affected, you should be aware that the regrade is specific to the appeal submitted. That is, the graders look for the specific alternative answer submitted in the successful appeal.

Hi everyone!

I am going to post my appeals on this thread tomorrow or at the beginning of the weekend if all goes well tonight and tomorrow. If any other failed candidate after that wants to discuss what I have written, I greatly encourage you to do so. I am looking forward to hear the opinions of all other failed candidates who will make appeals too!

My appeals are focused on 7 questions :

5-8-12-13-18-30-33

The version I will post on this thread will not be final, yet very near what I will send to the CAS office. It is quite thorough, but I encourage appealers to read it in order either to base your appeals on the way I have written them or to argue on ways these appeals could be better.

I thank you very much in advance.

7C, you should probably post your appeals under a clean thread in the Exam 7 Canada section. You'll target your intended audience better than way.

Despite the fact that they do revisit all the papers that are close enough to the passing mark, I think that if you believe that there exists an alternate solution (or that the posted solution is incorrect in the case of #30), it is probably better that you send in an appeal too... Not to say that 7C_Actuary's research is not thorough enough, but there's always the chance that he misses some points in his appeal and if you send in yours, it could make a stronger case...

And hopefully if feedback shows an alternate solution is in fact incorrect, the appealer can save the readers a bunch of time by not submitting it or correcting it.

I exchanged several emails with Mr. Bob Craver and he said that the appeal process is in place "to ensure the knowledge contained in the exam is correct." It should not be seen as a mere tool for "gaining points on a failed exam."

I plan on submitting an appeal. I encourage other passers who see errors or alternative solutions to do the same. This will help ensure the quality of our exam and the integrity of the system overall, building upon the fine contributions from various committees and volunteers sitting after sitting.

Mr. Proctor,

As 7C's solutions came out 5 days late (Aug. 5 vs. July 31), will the CAS accept 7C appeals received on Sept. 3, vs. the posted Aug. 29? The same question would apply to the other exams that have had their solutions posted late, i.e. if the committee posts solutions on July 31 + n days (as for 7US, 8, and 5), will they allow appeals on Aug. 29 + n days?

Hi everyone again,

I have had important family matters to attend to and the writing of my appeals takes longer than expected. My best estimation is tomorrow night for people waiting for this.

For 10399 :

I extremely appreciate what you are doing for us failed candidates. As you have no personal benefit in such doings, I thank you deeply and am clearly not the only one who feels the same way. Altruists such as you are people that give me faith in the actuarial profession and its members and also give me faith in humanity in general. You are a very kind person.
