Default Formulae Sheet

How are you learning the formulae/studying the formulae sheet? Have any of you put together all the page numbers where the formulae are found in the books/readings?

Here's campbell's annotation from a previous APM exam. I don't see that there is a similar effort for FET or any recent updates.

I'm following the formula sheet as I go through the reading, and jotting down a word or two about what each "important" formula actually is. Then when I'm working flashcards later I'll get a feel for where things to find things on the sheet based on my cheat words. It worked pretty well for APMV.

Well, I'm grading investments-related exams now, not taking the exams, so I don't really feel like repeating my efforts.....

No reason another ambitious FET-taker couldn't replicate it, though.

Not disagreeing here. It's a good idea for people to do it, just so they know what they're looking at. Making the annotations were pretty much enough to help me recognize equations.

I won't be attacking the formula sheet for a while. When I know the concepts better, and as I am going through the syllabus again the last month or so, I will find every formual I come across in the formula sheet and mark it. It took me a few times through to get them all last time.

Either way, I didn't bother actually studying it until the day before the exam.

Default 3 Errors (so far) in the formulae sheet

3 errors I've found in the formulae sheet. I emailed the SOA, and am curious to see if they eventually fix them. My guess is not for this exam. We'll see.

1. Page 36. It is in the first formula on the page. The formula listed is: dy/S = (r-q)dt+sqrt(V)dZs. This is the formula for dS/S rather than dy/S. It is from page 567 of Hull's book, 6th edition.

2. Page 38. About the 5th line done, the equation begins max[L- ...]. The R subscript k in the numerator should really be R subscript K (capital K). the Rk and RK are different. The same problem exists in the equation directly below that starts "where L(1+Rk ...)

3. Page 3. The third line from the bottom of the page reads:

wi = 1/n n chosen to be a large number.

it should read wi ≈ 1/2. This comes from page 177 of the textbook Financial Theory and Corporate Policy.

FWIW, I think the current contact email for exam issues is education@soa.org

Most definitely, if you find errata in the formula sheets, or in the study notes and/or texts, please notify the SOA. These issues are investigated, and if it's confirmed as an error, corrections are posted here:

Smile Annotated Formula Sheet

Here is my annotated formula sheet. It's not quite done. I haven't added much of Hardy yet, but if anyone wants to add to it and repost, I'd be happy to see additional notes.
