Default Caribbean island travel destinations

i'm looking for some recommendations of islands and resorts/places to stay at in the Caribbean with my SO. we'll be going for 7-12 days just depending on where we decide to go, costs, and so on. some of our current top choices are the Bahamas, Barbados, and Jamaica.

we're not really interested in any of the Sandals resorts, would love to stay at a nice hotel or even better, a hut near the ocean.

the only place i've been is the Virgin Islands so that is not an option this trip.

TIA!

Went on a cruise last yr with 5 ports. Favorites were Barbados (beach and water were great) and St Lucia (volcano, rain forest, beach, water, and mountains were great)

why not sandals? (or grand lido etc). These are all inclusive, and you have plenty of time to explore the areas.

I second Aruba (especially the low rise district since you are looking for a "hut near the ocean")!

Barbados is the best vacation in the southern Caribbean by far (and Curacao, even more South), but there are lots of other interesting islands (Martinique for French influence, the Antilles etc).

Of course! We wouldn't want our sensibilities ruining our vacations, now, would we?
