Is it possible to succeed as an actuary w/o the help of the placement expertise of DW Simpson? Anyone here has done it w/o their help?

I'm 95% sure they are making fun of you. Anyway, the answer is of course you can "succeed" as an actuary without DW simpson. Go to monster.com/ www.actuary.com/careerbuilder.com etc and submit your resume to jobs that you feel would be a good fit for you. Recruiters(DW simpson, actuarial careers, pinnecle group SC International etc.) are just a third parties that collect money if they place you for the job. They are a good tool because they may know of jobs you havent found on the internet but you have a better chance getting a job with a company if you submit your resume directly to them because they advoid this extra recruiter charge if the want to hire you.

Seriously? Of course.
1) Many actuaries, perhaps most, get their first job with no recruiter. Not as many, but lots move among jobs without a recruiter. 2) There are other good recruiters out there. DW Simpson is the largest actuarial recruiting firm, I think. And it is a competent reputable shop. But it's certainly not your only option. |
