Default More of the Effing Unbelievable

I am still slogging through the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, aka the BOHICA act.

Here are some more gems.

1. The Secretary of the Treasury, aka King Henry Paulson I, actually has the right to dispose of any assets they buy under this act at any time, at any price. So, not only can he buy these distressed assets at will with your money, FOR whatever price he wants (subject to some limited restrictions), but he can then turn around and SELL the same assets, so whatever price he wants. Hey...I'd like that power. I'd be real popular.

2. The "oversight" board consists of 5 people, all of whom are presidential appointees---oh, and two of the 5 are the Fed Chairman and the Sec Treas. This is a nice deal. 5 guys get virtually unlimited power to make whomeever they want rich. NICE.

If I keep reading, I'm afraid that Hank Paulson will end up getting the right to my first born son...

Who the heck wrote this thing????

Bush is in way over is head and desperately doesn't want to go down in history as Herbert Hoover.

This is 400 miles over bushes head...

It's a power grab where a new 4th branch of government is being created.

It's worse than that - he's going down in history as a combination of the worst aspects of Hoover and LBJ.

One of my friends said Paulson has already purchased property overseas and is retiring in January regardless of who is elected. Rickson, can you confirm?

To be fair, this would be over many presidents' heads. He is, after all, our first MBA president. I found his first speech about the bailout quite clear and decisive.
