So? There are enough people who still love her that if she runs in 2012 she'll start with exactly the same level of support Huckabee had. If she can't bring anything more to the table than he did, she'll do as well as he did. I think it's too early in the game to say definitely that she can't, though.

If someone's keeping track put me down for saying Palin will be the answer to a question in the 2025 Trivial Pursuit Political Edition- What woman was selected as a 2008 VP candidate who went on to lose the election thus ending her political career?

Sarah Palin: 'Not Doing This For Naught'

Down in the polls but certainly not out, Gov. Sarah Palin remains in the fight as the campaign enters its final week.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin sits down for an interview with ABC News' Elizabeth Vargas just five days before Election Day.

More PhotosIn an interview with ABC News' Elizabeth Vargas, the Republican vice-presidential nominee was asked about 2012, whether she was discouraged by the daily attacks on the campaign trail, and would instead pack it in and return to her home state of Alaska.

"I think that, if I were to give up and wave a white flag of surrender against some of the political shots that we've taken, that would bring this whole … I'm not doing this for naught," Palin said.

Palin said she believed in the current GOP ticket and that she was "thinking that it's going to go our way on Tuesday, Nov. 4. I truly believe that the wisdom of the people will be revealed on that day," she said.

Apparently, Palin just sees McCain as a stepping stone.

I have a feeling McCain is going to be unusually vigilant in fighting Alaska earmarks and pork the next couple of years.

Could it be that this was the intentions when they picked Palin for McCain? I'm gonna throw this out their Ohel-style. What if Palin were picked because they really didn't like McCain, and don't want him on the ticket at all? What if the idea was to lose this election so that a red-meat conservative could rally up the troops in 2012? What if the McCain campaign is just catching on to all this?

That's my point. She isn't loved by the base - she's loved by a portion of the base. She won't go anywhere if that's all that she attracts to her.

Into guns/hunting?....not really. Hot?.....really not. Parent of a special needs child?.....nope. Female genetalia?.....don't think so but I'm not checking.

I think the comparison to Huckabee is that they both appeal very strongly to a portion of the base....different portion of the base though. I always got the impression that he appealed to pretty much only the Christian part (wasn't he a pastor?).

This article suggests that she may still have a future in national politics if McCain loses.

If the Republican Party puts its chips behind Palin, it will be ruined for a decade.
