As for the American version of Life On Mars, I would say it was probably the show that I enjoyed the most this year (except for possibly Lost). Stellar cast, great writing for the most part, and a great 70s soundtrack that introduced me to some songs I probably never would have known existed otherwise. Shame that more people didn't give it a real chance, although I thought the series premier was kind of weak and really couldn't blame them. I probably wouldn't have tuned in for episode 2 either had I not been a mild fan of the British version. But I do think since returning from the winter break, the show has really hit its stride. Oh well; at least they get to have a series finale, which is supposedly going to differ from the British version's series finale (which I wasn't a huge fan of).
The British finale had it all as a coma/dream, right?

How old are you? There were no songs that I didn't recognize in any of the episodes.

I missed the series opener and the next one or two after that. It vaguely remember reading some plot summaries...was there a love interest that disappeared in the first couple episodes (not Hunt's daughter). Was there anything else of note that came up in the first couple episodes I should know?

The difference between this show and Lost is that LoM barely ever even refers to the shows central mystery. Even the time travel references are muted, which I guess is good since you wouldn't want it to become to gimmicky with lots of 'inside jokes' between the audience and Sam about VCRs and sushi (Seriously, sushi didn't exist in 1973?). Lost, on the other hand, can't figure out which mystery is central and keeps introducing new ones without ever answering old ones.

lisa bonet was his love interest in the first episode (2008). if i was him, i'd want to stay in 1973. i thought his neighbor was going to become a love interest, but we haven't seen her in the past six or so episodes. with two episodes left, i see little chance of him hooking up with annie (unless they're saving that for the finale).

maybe sushi wasn't popular in the early 70s.

No, I meant someone from 1973.

Neighbor? Maybe that's who I'm thinking of. Who was that?

Apparently it was unheard of.

Spoiler:
Without going into too much detail, it actually had it that his proper time was the 1970s, and his future life was all in his head

1978. I knew at least half of them by title/artist (Bang a Gong, Black and White, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, Reelin' in the Years, You Don't Mess Around with Jim, Rocketman, etc.), about another third I wouldn't have been able to name but had definitely heard several times before (All the Young Dudes, Ballroom Blitz, No Time, etc.). But there were a number that I had either never heard before or at least did not recognize.

There was a female neighbor that kind of got written out of the series after the winter break. It was kind of implied that she did not really exist and was a figment of his imagination, but this was never definitively stated. Outside of that, nothing crucial really sticks out in my mind.

Yeah, so what was up with last night's episode? Anyone got any theories? They kinda lost me.

windy's door closing behind her the way it did was strange. when i saw him open windy's door to find the apartment empty, i thought of what was said here about her being a figment of his imagination. what was the "to be or not to be" comment she made? was it a way of asking if all that was real or not?

when i heard them mention the toy company i looked at my wife and said they made those toy robots that he keeps seeing.

i wondered about the phone call in the cabin being in his file. i guess he would have mentioned it to his shrink.
