Default The "Rate a Beer" Thread

Rate a Beer.

Here are the rules: this is going to take a format similar to the Best and Worst Movies of XXXX Thread. You will list a type of beer, and rate it from 0 stars to 5 stars:

- (0 stars): Worthless - you have very strong negative feelings
* (1 star): Bad - you have definite negative feelings
** (2 stars): Okay - you're ambivalent
*** (3 stars): Good - you have definite positive feelings
**** (4 stars): Excellent - you have very strong positive feelings
***** (5 stars): Excellent AND you feel it's the best beer you'll ever have

RULES:
  • No mixed beer (i.e., no black and tans)
  • No non-beer booze (i.e., no hard alcohol, mixed drinks, or fu-fu drinks)
  • Please make posts neat. I'm not reading through trash to try to decipher your rating.
  • Beer name *** Review.
  • Please be as complete as possible on your beer name, i.e. "Sam Adams Boston Lager" instead of just "Sam Adams"

I will then keep track of everyone's answers and keep a running list of most well-liked beer.

Feel free to rate and review as many beers as you'd like, have fun!

Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer: 0* Worst "beer" ever, the only thing you taste is the chili, so if drinking liquid chili extract is your thing, go for it. Otherwise, you will want to pour this beer down the drain after one sip. The only reason I could ever see buying a 6-pack of this is if you're at college and want to have a contest to see who can drink the most of this foul concoction.

Bell's Expedition Stout - (****1/2): Probably one of the best stouts on the market. Very thick with strong roasty malt, molasses, and vanilla flavor. Great color, black as night and medium head. Although it is about 10% abv, there is no burn, goes down very smoothly. Costs about $15 a six pack but well worth it. If you like a good stout, grab one to sip on the next chilly evening.

Pacifico ***: By itself, it's nothing too special, but the price is right and it goes great with a lime.

A few staples:

Miller Light: * One of the worst domestics. They market themselves big but fail to realize their product takes like foul water.

Bud Light: ** As far as light beers go, my top choice. It's nothing special, and only something I would only drink when drinking a lot.

Budweiser: **½ A notch higher than it's light counterpart. Taste and alcohol content is a little better, but it's still a domestic.

Guinness Draught: ****½ One of my favorite beers. It's dark, it's rich, it's creamy, and it's got a very full flavor.

Guinness Extra Stout: ****½ Another one of my favorite beers. This one has a much different taste and texture than Draught, but is still right up there with it because of its flavor and fullness.

Natural Light: *½ I am almost tempted to go higher with the rating here. A pure party beer, tastes like water, doesn't fill you up, and doesn't kill you the next day. It's cheap and get's the job done. You'd never order it with dinner but it's great for beer pong.

Corona: ****½ Just outstanding in every way. The way the light plays with it's sexy bronziness, the slice of lime dangling in the top, the cool refreshing shivers of pleasure each drop delivers. Has to be one of the greatest beers in history.

...

Corona: ½ Literally translates to "Mexican piss." It is so bad it is not even palatable without a lime. Has to be one of the worst beers in history.

Land Shark: ** An upgrade from Corona. Similar style and taste but an obvious improvement. Not good in mass quantities but is pretty good with bar food.

Fosters:****½ Among the most delicious beers available today. It helps to drink it immediately from the can, pouring the beverage into a glass somehow diminishes it. Fosters has a terrific bouquet of spice, licorice, creme, and boysenberries. If you want a can full of hoppiness, Fosters may be the perfect choice.
