Islanders sign Biron to a 1-year, 1.4 million dollar deal.

"Adding Marty gives us three bona-fide number one goalies," said Islanders' general manager Garth Snow.

They must know DiPietro's hip is a career-threatening injury and isn't getting any better. Otherwise, there's no reason to go sign 2 goalies.

12, counting this season. Or 97. Either one will work.

Now they have two other respectable goalies, they should just give Rick the entire season to rehab.

Isn't it about time for them to think about an extension?

Boston trades Aaron Ward to Carolina for Patrick Eaves, who they then place on waivers. Allegedly, the B's will try to buy Eaves out if he clears - which they are allowed to do since Matt Hunwick filed for arbitration; he signed on or about July 20, and the B's have the 48-hour period starting 3 days after the new contract was signed.

The move will save the B's about $2.2 million against the cap for '09-10 and will actually give them a slight credit of about $42,000 for '10-11 because of how Eaves' contract is structured and how cap hits for buyouts are calculated.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames completed a trade on Monday.

The Flames acquired forward Colin Stuart and defenceman Anton Stralman and the Leafs' 7th round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft for forward Wayne Primeau and the Flames' 2nd round pick in 2011.

Stuart, who was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 5th round (135th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, has accumulated eight goals and five assists along with 24 penalty minutes in 51 career NHL games.

Stralman, who was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the 7th round (216th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, has totaled four goals and 18 assists along with 38 penalty minutes in 88 career NHL games.

Primeau was drafted 17th overall in 1994 by the Buffalo Sabres. He's played 715 games in the NHL and has recorded 66 goals and 120 assists.

Not bad, picking up a 2nd rounder for a couple of spare parts/depth guys.
