Default Tiger not fined for ripping official

As Sir Charles once said:

Tiger ripped an official for putting Paddy on the clock when there was nobody behind them in the tournament this weekend. Paddy fell apart quickly when they did, and Tiger said "it's too bad _____ (don't remember the guy's name) did that and ruined the match" or some such thing.

Of course, if Tiger said he was going to start his own tour, the PGA would shut up pronto.

I'm sure the tournament sponsors, the fans, TV advertisers, and basically everyone other than the PGA officials were upset that the final group was out of position.

I understand the purpose of the rule, but given the size of the galleries that follow Tiger and that they were the final group, it's pretty silly for an official to put them on the clock at the 16th hole. I also read somewhere that they have not assessed any penalties for slow play since something like 1982

it was dumb to put them on the clock. they had 3 holes left, and no one else was in contention, it was basically match play at that point.

agree - also think it is a good indication of Tiger that he was upset it hurt his opponent unfairly

Especially if he was partly responsible because of the large gallery that follows him. Which was indicated as part of the reason the were slow according to something I read.

partly responsible? that is a bit strong, the gallery is not for him to control or feel any guilt about. They were the final group.

what the hell are you talking about?

"partly responsible"? it's the pga tour's responsibility to control the galleries, not the golfers'.

Yup. Warn them for slow play if they're on the 6th hole. But on the 16th?!? That does absolutely no good. They can't "catch up" with the clock with only 3 holes left.

The PGA is obviously concerned about trying to fit within the TV network's window, but I would suspect that the networks expect Sunday's final round to go over as often as not. It's not like it never happens, and it's not like it hasn't been happening for decades. And with Tiger in the final group, CBS would rather have him on the tube anyway!
