Default Ladies: When and How did you come to know you wanted to be a mom?

In my experience, all the girls I've known have either (1) wanted to have kids since they first knew what that meant or (2) never want to have kids. Just curious to see if there were any other stories out there.

I'm not a lady, but if I was, I've always wanted kids.

One woman I work with told me when I started she never wanted to have kids. I didn't know at the time she was with child.

I never thought of myself as mom material. Never was interested in babies or little kids when I was a kid. Played with stuffed animals rather than dolls. HATED babysitting.

Once I got into my 20s, I never had an interested in spending time with my friends' kids.

Got married at 21, and my ex really wanted kids. I said I wasnt' ready. I needed to finish school. That took a while (5 more years going part time and working at the same time). Then I graduated school but I wasn't ready because I had to finish exams. Then I got my ASA and decided to take a break from exams...and I STILL wasn't ready.

Then I realized the reason I wasn't ready was I didn't have an equal partner in the matter. We divorced.

Met my current husband at age 31. For a variety of reasons, I knew I wanted to bear his children in about 4 months of dating.

Now that the child is born and all that, she is happy with the decision. She just said that growing up, she never wanted to do it. It may have been a cultural thing, she is Japanese, so maybe motherhood has different duties associated with it there than here?

I found something I wrote as a kid [4th grade, maybe], where I predicted my sisters would have kids, but that I'd be a research scientist working in a lab and not be married or have kids.

So evidently it wasn't in childhood that I decided I liked kids. I think it was because I was one and didn't particularly like being in school then.

I can't quite remember when I changed my mind. Maybe babysitting? I found little kids to be highly entertaining.

I've always wanted to be one of those people that is locked away in a research lab somewhere for weeks on end trying to discover something amazing. Unfortunately, public schools cater more towards the average student than the student that wants to learn evreything.
