Default Japanese American relations after WWII

Japan attacks Pearl Harbor in 1941
US bombs the shite out of Japan in 1945
By the early 1950s we are strong allies and have been ever since

Pretty damn quick turnaround.

I'd really look closer at the attitudes of average Japanese in the 50s and 60s. The Japanese government liked us, but that should come as no surprise when you consider it was the same criminals that were running the country before the war. We gave them back their zaibastsu and in exchange they helped us fight in Korea, bust communist skulls in, and buy our debt. We couldn't even visit the place in the 60s because the young people wanted to kill us.

Good info I had to assume that some portion of Japan hated the US. I mean I know Brits who still hate the Krauts. Hell it seems like most of them still do.

This is something I would like to learn more about

And now, the young people love our culture, and ours love theirs.

I agree. They could use another bombing.

Though it'd be good for relations, it'd be bad for the environment so I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Sorry Mars

Loving a culture and loving a government are different things. I met very few Japanese that liked our government. They were uniformly against Bush and American militarism in general. Many resent our propping up of Japans corrupt ruling political class.

Sure, they like American entertainment and movies. And Japanese girls like big white men. They enjoy much of the freedom American live stands for (who wouldn't when your that repressed), even though many see us as lazy and irresponsible.

They also generally dislike having American military bases on their soil, IIRC.

I was born in Tokyo, though we moved away before I could really absorb anything. I'd love to visit sometime.
