Often the police are called in cases like this. If they testify that they walked in and found the woman bleeding on the floor, and the man in the house, and no one else home, and she testifies that he assaulted her, most juries are going to decide there's no reasonable doubt.
I agree. Unless you want to believe in aliens or ghosts.

Maybe the woman was cheating on him and had her lover beat her up right before the husband came home from work to frame him.

I know this is a stretch and probably not very likely, but these things do happen. There was a case about 10 years ago where a girl had her family beat her up at Disney World to make it look like she was assaulted by a perp at Disney World. The plan was to threaten Disney with a lawsuit, knowing that Disney would probably pay them off to keep quiet.

My brother knew some a girl who was married to a guy who was serving overseas in the military during the firts Gulf war. While he was away, she took on a lover. When her husband came home, she and her lover murdered him.

Just trying to show that women are capable of horrible things and things are not always as clear cut as we'd like to imagine.

Suckitude can arise late in life, too. People are not necessarily born with it.

She is in the hospital.
Perhaps she had a nervous breakdown from the stress of the situation, or his emotional abuse and repeated betrayal of his promnises as a husband. I wonder how people's opinion of the situation will change if this is what was meant by "hospital".

Sorry the OP was a little hard to follow. It's been a crazy morning.

My knowledge is incomplete, but here's what we think we know. She filed a PSA against him a couple months ago. He's not allowed here. Prior to that, for the last year or so, he'd been not paying the mortgage and other bills, except just enough to keep his phone from getting shut off. When he was removed from the house because of the PSA, that's when they started garnering his wages.

Last night, he apparently crawled under the house, cut a hole in the floor, and entered. (I wondered how he got in--I installed new locks for her when he was kicked out. Glad it wasn't through the door.) He beat the living snot out of her with a hammer and stabbed her several times. She convinced him to drive her to the hospital (WTF!?! Dude was not thinking clearly); she told him she'd wouldn't rat him out. Of course, she did. He's in custody. She had surgery for a collapsed lung. Looks like she'll be okay.

Hope that helps clarify things. I'm going to go read the rest of the posts and see what other questions there might be.

Wherever it comes from, this is one of the most important things a person can do to prepare one's own child to make their way in the world: some awareness not to expect that all people are basically good inside, and some understanding of what some important red flags are, and what kind of treatment they should never tolerate because the situation can only be expected to get worse.
