This morning I was going through the cabinet and noticed the the very expensive gift that I gave to my partner for our 10th anniversary is missing. The case that contained the gift is still there in its usual spot.
In the past few months when it may have dissappeared we have had very few house guests and only our very close friends and family. However, my son has also had friends over, not many but maybe 3-4. So, the sinking feeling I'm having is that someone among this pretty darn small group of people took it, but I have no idea who would do this outside of the couple of my son's friends who I don't know well. So, my questions to you are: 1) How do I sort out who might have taken it? 2) Or do I not try to figure it out and write it off as a loss and just keep a tighter lock on the very small number of things of value that I'd worry about losing. 2) Do I file a homeowners claim for it? |

I don't think there's any way to "sort out" who took it without alienating the innocent "preliminary suspects."
How old is your son?

Probably. I know there's some drinking going on, and a little pot. But not sure about heavy drug use. My son has a good head on his shoulders, but a few of his friends get into trouble now and then. But none of those guys (that I know of) have been to our house in the time period of the missing necklace.
