Default What an awesome idea!

http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/wc/dwc/sunset.html

Quote:
The mission and performance of the Division of Workers’ Compensation are currently being reviewed by the Legislature as required under the Texas Sunset Act. The Act provides that the Sunset Commission, composed of legislators and public members, periodically evaluate state entities to determine if the entity is still needed, and what improvements are needed to ensure that state funds are well spent. Based on the recommendations of the Sunset Commission, the Texas Legislature ultimately decides whether an entity continues to operate into the future.

We should have this federally. Every department must justify its existance to the public every 5 years or so.

Every 3 years. Frequently, but no on the same period as the POTUS.

A lot would probably get cut if each one was turned into a referendum where voting Yes meant you were voting to both
a) keep the department, and
b) keep the associated tax expense

Here's some I think could go (from Iowa)

Human Rights Department - Division of Asian Pacific Islanders, and Division of Latino Affairs.

Refugee Services

Racing and Gaming Commission (promotes gambling)

Gambling Treatment Program (promotes not-gambling)

Iowa Public TV

So we need more bureaucracy to make sure the bureaucracy we have isn't wasteful? Who will monitor the monitors?

Pot smokers. They're the go-getter type. I say we put them in charge.

Then it will be...

Mission Accomplished!
