First he writes this...http://www.cnbc.com/id/33587668. He's been getting hammered pretty good over it (me included).
Then today, he tries to diffuse it with this...http://www.cnbc.com/id/33603449, which I don't think did too much to help him. I think this guy is an idiot. |

Meh. The only problem with his point is that it turns out the facts do not support it. But I don't think that's why you were offended. You'd have been offended even if he were factually correct.

The last American born winner was Bill Rodgers. Not sure there is problem with saying it that way. But he has an American passport so is clearly American .

I'm offended for several reasons.
1) It comes off as anti-immigrant 2) It comes off as potentially racist 3) It was clearly written with little to no research on Meb, and apparently, 4) According to his tweets last night, even AFTER learning that Meb has been in the US since he was 12, trains in the US, with the US team, he continued to try to bang the "he's not really an American runner" drum, making his apology completely hollow. He blew it badly here. |

From DARRENROVEL1, on Twitter:
"NYC Marathon winner Keflezghi may be a citizen, but can't count as American" "If u move here @ age 12, u aren't American-born. USA running still has a problem even w/Meb win." As to the second post, he clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Granted, he doesn't follow American distance running, I can understand that. But if you don't follow it, you can't opine on it like that either. But the 2 Twitter posts, the original article, and the clear contradiction he creates in his backpedaling "apology" makes it clear to me that the apology is meaningless. |

Win it? HA! I'll settle for running it someday. Not sure if I'll apply for it next year, or wait one more year and apply for Chicago. Gotta see when registration opens for Chicago. It fills so fast. But I might be able to know about Chicago in time to apply for NYC lottery if Chicago sells out before I can get in. But I'll run them both at some point.
