Default Economy recovering?

I am confused by the contradicting news items. One real estate index shows home prices increased, another shows declined. GDP growth rate for last quarter was revised down, and government officials upgraded the estimates for future growth. Consumer confidence is up by one source and down by another. Why all the contradictions? Do you think the economy is recovering?

P.S. please note the use of 'economy' and not 'market'.

Yes, but quite slowly and not enough to dent unemployment anytime soon.

I have a new job, which pays more than my old job, although I think I'm going to like it a lot less than my old job, but like I said it pays more and I just bought a new 50" plasma TV and a 2010 Mazda 3, so I think the economy is doing great!

YMMV.

People talk about a "W" for the shape of the recovery. I'm starting to believe the shape is "M"

Why is a capital cursive Q the same thing as the numeral 2? That thing looks nothing like a Q.

Can someone explain to me the "42" option in a lot of these polls as the last choice? I don't get it...
