Welcome! I am pleased to introduce you to Speaking of Actuaries, the new blog of the SOA. (Hopefully you’ve caught on to the play on the SOA acronym in the title.)

As president of the SOA, one of my objectives is to stay in close communication with members, candidates, employers, academia, regulators and our sister actuarial organizations—all of our constituencies. And not just in North America, but also internationally. Your Board members are keenly aware that they are elected by the members—we know we have to stay in close contact to represent your interests, short term and long term.

An attempt by McL to try and prove he has a personality. We all understand the play on SOA in the title, pointing it out doesn't make it any less lame.

I don't think that's the point of the blog, but hey, I'll let the man speak for himself. or of actuaries.

Note that nobody has commented on the blog yet (in 2 days). Maybe if you don't have anything good to say....

I've been in the blogosphere for years, and usually the problem isn't finding commenters with negative things to say.

I assume that the SOA blog has moderated comments, though. And if not, they had better put moderation in.

I was there this morning and saw that it was moderated. I couldn't think of anything to say that wasn't kind of fatuous, so I didn't post.

I'll be the first to say that an SOA Presidential Blog has been long overdue and is good first step in the path to greater communication and transparency.

It's moderated and the TOS says you have to use your name.

Completely disagree. This is a good idea for the SOA.

The play on SOA isn't lame. Pointing it out is lame and unnecessary.

Having only fatuous things to say has never stopped me.... which reminds me, I should probably comment on that blog.
