Hulu wouldn't work at all. He mentioned some others, but I forget. I think his biggest disappointment was that virtually none of the apps he was using on his Droid worked on the Prime tablet.

There are many differences, but the main one I pointed out was that Google wrote a crybaby post just a few short months ago telling the world that they were getting beat up on the playground by patents and that the patent system was evil. Clearly, patents are only evil when used against you.

Makes you wonder how else Google is redefining "don't be evil."

So, I found out today I'm getting a bonus!

....and I'm not spending it on an iPad.

I could say that it's b/c I'm waiting for the iPad 3 announcement, but it's really b/c I decided to splurge on the Order of the Stick Kickstarter project.

And also, I'm waiting to hear about iPad3... at which point, I'll buy an iPad2.

maybe.

Clearly, in E's mind, self-defense is equal to evil.

This is more RIAA/SOPA/PIPA b.s.

They're so worried about piracy that they don't permit devices to use the service unless they're completely 100% sure that theft couldn't occur.

So what would be their options?

1) Sit back and get beat up? Or more specifically, let their business partners (Samsung, HTC) get beat up? Seems like a bad idea, thus they bought Motorola for the patents.

2) Defend themselves. This appears to be what they are doing. They haven't completed the Motorola purchase, so they still have no say over what Motorola is doing. When they complete the purchase, we'll see, but I think it is a bit overwrought to declare them evil because of what they might do when something in the future happens.

3) Go on the all out offensive. Start suing start ups, entrepreneurs, small businesses, big businesses, patent trolls, everyone. Also, with the IP that Motorola has, they could essentially shut down the the all current 3G and 4G phone productions.

4) Go on a very targeted offensive. They could basically drop guided bombs at companies that are specifically causing them issues. Specifically, I would say Apple (which is continually trying to shut out Samsung with things like swipe to unlock and "rounded corners on icons") and Microsoft who is just trying to get a $5-15 cut of every Android phone and not disclosing what IP gives them the right to do so.

When I look at these options, the best option for Google to take to fully blow up the current patent situation is actually #3. They should basically shutdown the entire cellphone industry. Congress already blames Google for tons of crap and is constantly threatening to take them to antitrust court. If Google went to Congress and said, "We are doing this specifically because the law allows it," I can't think of a quicker way to get some MAJOR IP law changes made.

Scorched earth may be the best cure for what ails the intellectual property forest.
