That is strange.

Anyway, our printer/scanner/copier is on the older side. I've been considering a new multifunction unit and was eyeing the hp 7510. I had been considering one with a removable tablet, but that would be dumb now that I have the iPad. This is one of the models with AirPrint, so both our iPhones ans the iPad would be able to print seamlessly

Anyone have experience with any AirPrint printers?

I've had good experiences with the HP ones. My particular printer isn't AirPrint capable (got it right before they announced AirPrint and they didn't bring capability to older printers), but I used a work around to trick Windows/iTunes whatever into thinking it was and it's awesome. Very convenient for emails, pictures, and PDFs.

How much finger drag does that Zagg cover cause? I've always been averse to screen protectors because they add so much friction.

Definitely distorted. 4S costs about $188 to make, while new iPad with 4G costs about $316. Apple is using the extreme popularity of iPhone to get carriers to pay obscene subsidies, and therefore can't sell the no subsidy devices for less. Most likely the 16GB 4S would go for $399 (or $299 with competition so high) if the cellphone market functioned outside carrier influence and contracts.

But we Americans love to be milked monthly to keep up front costs down!

Yeah. To be clear...this really isn't an Apple thing. It's the dumb cellular market in this country. Even that crappy flip phone from LG or Moto is $400+ without a contract. It's absurd.

I used a workaround for awhile too (AirPrint Hacktivator to set up my PC as an Airprint server to the HP printer) but for awhile now I've been using the "Printer Pro" app instead. Talks directly to the HP printer, no server required, no AirPrint required. It's really awesome. In fact since restaging my PC with Windows 7 I haven't even bothered installing printer drivers (something that is a sticking point with me and HP printers - their drivers are total bloatware) and print everything through the phone.

More and more printers are directly AirPrint capable now too.

So I wonder, if Apple suddenly decided to go all unlocked and sell all their phones directly, how would that affect the market. Let's say you could get a 16GB for $299. I wonder if Apple would sell a ton more incremental phones? I mean, right now if you break your contract, it is pretty expensive. If you could just pay $300 each time a new one comes out, why wouldn't people do that? I know many people do upgrade every go round, but I think it would jump WAY up if they did away with subsidies.

I'm not sure Apple has the option to do. Wouldn't the carriers just not activate those phones on their network since Apple is trying to throw a monkey wrench into their system?

I can't believe this system has gone on for as long as it has when other regions of the world can easily separate phone sales from service sales.

Agree. This is a problem perpetuated by carriers. What's most promising is that Apple is the first phone maker to ever have enough clout to potentially force the carriers' hand. It could happen eventually.

That said, I think Apple is doing just fine under the current model. I think they are more than happy with people buying a new phone every 2 years.

Not too much at all. I have no screen protector on my iPhone, but the zagg on the iPad. Minimal drag.

I've always had hp printers (since 2000), I love the bottom feed trays that they've used. I think I've only had 2 since 2000, only really upgrading to get new features.
