That was a really long post to figure out that he clearly meant new hardware.

Is it any wonder why the carriers may be interested in getting a 3rd competitor into the market?
Agree that's their thinking. However, I'm appreciative of what Apple is doing. It's tipping the control farther from the carriers. Maybe we'll see contract-free pricing in our lifetimes after all.

One thing that you forget in all this is that Verizon isn't the entire US market and that the US market is a weird, rent-seeking anomaly. And only a drop in the bucket.

Since contracts aren't the norm anywhere else, the iPhone doesn't have nearly the share it has in the US. If you want contracts to go away, Apple's approach in the US isn't going to cut it. European carriers do not pay the subsidies to Apple and you can see the difference in that most people have Android phones because they can be had at a larger assortment of price points.

Apple's "demand large subsidies" approach will only work if the users can subsidize their purchase over 2 years. If that goes away, Apple will need a price drop.

Also, this is a reason the "Android is in trouble" articles are complete garbage.

As soon as you start talking about this on a global basis, we'll start listening.

I wonder what the model is in China. The 4S was released there in March, and sales have exploded overseas.

As of February, their share was slipping. It costs two months of salary for the average Chinese person to buy an iPhone. I believe it is all prepaid there.

I'm watching tidbits roll in across the Twitters regarding Apple's earnings announcement today. It's unreal that the largest company in the world grew earnings by 94% y/y.

And how much cash does Apple have now? The most scaring thing is that I am still looking forward to the new MacBook Air.

A 15" 1920x1080, or better yet 1920x1200 (I can dream, right?), would seal the deal for me.

When is the new one supposed to be out? I keep tossing back and forth on a MacBook pro or an air. If a new air is due out soon, I'll wait for specs before I choose
