Re: technology perspective. . .

Sometimes I think about my childhood and how I would go on camping trips for days and days at a time with absolutely no electronics because no one had cell phones, GPS, iPods, etc. It really is impossible to imagine ever experiencing that again (at least not voluntarily).

Of all the causes of astronaut insanity, getting a fly caught inside your space helmet is probably in the top three.

It's not really about addiction. The benefits are just too hard to ignore. There are many good reasons to have good communication and location-based technology when going camping/hiking.

Lenovo, the world’s second-biggest maker of personal computers, likely will offer a line of enterprise tablets loaded with Windows 8 sometime during the next year, a company executive told CIO Journal.

I'm really curious whether Win8 will get any traction on the coming wave of Windows tablets. They face an incredible challenge catching up on the software side.

Samsung may be ready to venture beyond Android. Enter Tizen:

As a 29 year old turning 30 later this year, I think you're wrong. I remember dial up days, but I hardly remember non-Internet days...

I was doing wireless back when we had dial up. Dialed up with a desktop, the desktop also had a wireless card installed, Internet sharing to a wireless card in the laptop and bam...wireless dial up

Chop, on my honeymoon to Mexico we brought iPods. Laying by the pool in an all inclusive resort is better with music. It also helped for the flight...of course 4.5 years ago there wasn't iPads and all

true. i am right on the line such that i am Gen X or Gen Y depending on which defintion you look at but i definitely identify more with the older crowd on most things and technology specifically.

on our honeymoon we used kindles and ipad to do reading but mostly stayed off the phones and left stuff in the room except for trips to the beach. it was nice but i agree with E, banning all technology doesnt seem like it woudl enhance my relaxment factor. the benefits created can actually enhance the lack of responsibility.

I know some 18 year olds pretty well. You are wrong about that. they are very similar to the 30 year olds. But there's a big gulf between the 30-year-olds who have never really lived without the internet, and older folks.

People still do that, you know. Today it's a choice, but people still go camping without electronics. They would probably throw a cellphone in the pack for emergencies, but typically, it doesn't come out for the duration of the trip.
