If I had $100mm to waste I would by Frank Lloyd Wright's Millard House and have $94mm left over. I find functional art such as architecture more appealing.

When the price is in the millions, those who buy it as a monetary investment are subscribing to the bigger fool theory.

The more I look at it, and other works of art by Alberto, the more I understand the price tag of $104 million dollars. :drevil:

What I don't think you get is the rule of diminishing returns. If you're a multi-billionaire who's into tall skinny men with bubbly skin, then why not throw 100 million at a particularly nice one?

What I don't get is how Van Gogh couldn't sell his Sunflowers. Have you seen those mofos? They're like the bomb.com.

Given what *was* selling and showing in salons at that time, I'd be more surprised if he *had* sold them. His paintings are too forceful for most people to hang in their homes for visitors to see.

Rich people want the stuff they like being untouchable, and they want to perpetuate it -- that was the main reason. Also, an art piece can not be duplicated -- that was part of the reasons too.

So, demand = some rich people bid the things they like sky high; supply = there is only one in the world, forever.
