If one of his own students goes on to write one of the accounts about sleds and flying reindeer, then yes, we can assume that he was referring to sleds and flying reindeer.

Supersonic, I agree with Mulan that this has been a civil discussion.

O forgot one thing, yeah, if you actually look into Christianity deeply and study to understand it, as I have, resurrection is actually totally fundamental. hmm, let's see if I can find this verse.. Paul said, in 1 Cor 15:1-11

"The Resurrection of Christ

1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[1] : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter,[2] and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. "

Here is a synopsis of the argument.

Someone: "Belief in the resurrection is core to Christianity. Paul even says so"

Mulan: "Yes, but is that resurrection necessarily physical? The gospels say so, but they were written later and could have been embellished. Just looking at the writings of Paul and nothing else, the resurrection could be interpreted as spiritual. "

Someone else: " No, Jesus had to rise from the dead. You're not a Christian if you don't believe this"

Mulan: "Fine, but even if this is so, you don't have to believe in a physical resurrection"

Someone: "No, you have to believe in the resurrection to be a Christian"

There is substantial disagreement that any of the disciples contributed to the gospels. What if the writer of the later story about flying reindeer was NOT a student of Santa, but an interested party that was sure he could fly and didn't think it mattered much how.

There are plenty of reasons that followers of Christ would have wanted him to live again. You only have to look Elvis sightings to see the same type of effect.

Mulan,

Just to clarify, I wasn't arguing against your statements without qualifiers. I was making a comparison as to how Linus was understanding your statement with how he was understanding Voter's. I think he correctly understood your viewpoint, but didn't understand Voter's.

No, I'd say:

Someone: "Belief in the resurrection is core to Christianity. Paul even says so"

Mulan: "Yes, but is that resurrection necessarily physical? The gospels say so, but they were written later and could have been embellished. Just looking at the writings of Paul and nothing else, the resurrection could be interpreted as spiritual. "

Someone else: "It was impossible if anyone wants to fabricate this he would think up something like resurrection, because people at the time just would not believe it, why make up something no one would believe?"

Mulan: "Fine, but even if this is so, you don't have to believe in a physical resurrection"

Someone: "Yes, you can not believe that. But any Christian definitely believes that."

Sounds like a ghost, apparition, spirit, or even a feeling of togetherness or spirtualness - no mention of physical body (which surely would have been mentioned! How bizarre) or it speaking to them. additionally, since the appearance list does not square with the gospels, they all can't be right.

Mulan,

Can you clarify which point of Paul's doesn't square with the Gospels?
