I've had a kindle in each generation except the one about to be released. At first it was only a US 3G, then there were a US and international version, now it's just international only.

Unless you're buying an older version, it's not really relevant to the current models.

I think kindle 3g access used to be included. Amazon now seems to be going to a flat rate per MB international delivery rate.

Interesting. I can see how a Kindle 3G would be very attractive in countries with expensive data rates.

Is it possible to load movie files that you already own onto the Fire, or can you only stream movies from Amazon's cloud services, Netflix, etc.? I haven't been able to tell from reviews.

It's android, I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to.

Here, from amazon under "on-device storage" 8GB internal (approximately 6GB available for user content). That's enough for 80 apps, plus 10 movies or 800 songs or 6,000 books.

Except for missing the point. The fire has access to amazon's cloud drives. Local storage is only what you would need if you didn't have access to the cloud.

OK. I was trying to help inform someone else's Christmas gift buying. They were asking me how well it handled movies. The recipient is *not* Android savvy. In fact, they had an Android phone and then exchanged it for an iPhone.

Watching movies has to be dead simple or it'll be a bust.

I get the sense that the Fire's movie experience is centered around streaming, so a good internet connection will be vital.
