I agree. And that's really the only thing I can think of that would make me upgrade from the current version.

Especially if you only turned them on when you used it in the dark. But they'd have to pop up somehow, to get enough height to work well. I guess it could work exactly like the light that's integrated with the cover - as a bit that slides out of a corner and curves over to illuminate the page. But that would add a potentially vulnerable moving part to the gadget, with a big hole that could allow sand or other crud to get inside.

Lights just around the edge wouldn't give a nice illumination, and as Apple has shown several times, a missing feature is generally better than a poorly implemented one.

I agree with this. I hope they can figure out how to implement on a light on it soon.

I also hope that they keep making a low-feature version of the Kindle. I hope that the "experimental" browsers fail because all I want in a Kindle is the E Ink display and nothing else really -- other than search and the ability to highlight/annotate.

Basically, I want it to be like a piece of paper that stays in sync with my other devices. I.e. the best of the non-digital and digital world.

Yes. I like to read a little before I go to bed. It helps me get to sleep on nights I'm not real tired. The cover w/ light is less bothersome to my wife than a night table lamp.

I plan on getting this. It looks like nothing is added to the edge and I like the pop up light from top better than the corner.

Maybe it's some psychological fallacy, but it feels weird to pay another 60% of the device's purchase price for a case/light.

I totally agree the pricing on that item is absurd.

That said, I paid $70 for a smart cover that has far less functionality that that. The price and reason you stated is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
